JELS Yoga Mat Unboxing and Review

Just in time for New Year's resolutions, we tried out the JELS Yoga Mat. This is the 10mm, nonslip mat that is made out of HDTPE. It is a nice size measuring 6'x2'x10mm (or roughly 2/5" thick). It comes with a carry strap that can double for use as a strap in your yoga practice. The nonslip is provided by a dotted texture than somewhat suctions to the ground (or your feet).

This mat was 3-4x the thickness of most mats I've used previously. While that might seem like something unruly to deal with, it rolls up very nicely and is easy to handle throughout. There wasn't really a downside to a thicker mat. The upside? My knees didn't hurt at all and I usually am a big complainer after a yoga practice. It also seemed to cushion my wrists as well, leaving them less sore.

It didn't slip on the floor as I moved through various poses and was easy to hold as it gripped to my feet as well. While it was grippy, it didn't inhibit movement. It allowed for intentional motion, without fear of slipping. They do come in a variety of colors as well.

This mat is a bit more expensive, running close to $50, but well worth the investment. It feels very durable and versatile for use in yoga or other workouts as well. I would recommend over a cheaper mat if you have the ability to purchase.
